Part 2
From the school we drove directly to Haller Nature Park. This is a sort of zoo in Mombasa, where you can feed giraffes from your hand, and watch hippos and crocodiles being fed. We had fun watching the monkeys (and their babies!) swing from tree to tree. The only problem was that two of us, decided they were going to touch a monkey before the day was out. Unfortunately, monkeys don’t like to be touched. If you try, they will attack you. Lesson of the day: don’t try to touch the monkeys! Other lesson for the day: first question from mother after daughter has been assaulted by monkey should NOT be “did you break the camera?”.
Even though the monkeys didn’t seem quite as appealing after that, it was a pretty cool thing to see tortoises that were over 100 years old, giraffes eating out of your hand, hippos up close and personal. We now feel sort of like we’ve been on safari; since everyone here seems to think you MUST go on one while you’re here. We even saw a wild cat!!!
Stay tuned for info on the Good Ship Voyager tomorrow. . .
