Part 2 Day 4
We feel we have been remiss in not sharing with you about our wonderful accommodations here in Mombasa. We are residing at the Voyager Beach Hotel, which is actually run as a ship. We lovingly refer to it as the Good Ship Voyager. Each day we “set sail” for a different port. We’ve been to Hawaii, Portugal, Lebanon, had a day on the high seas, and today we’re in Kenya (imagine that!). This means that the whole day has activities geared to the theme of the country: the food we eat, the activities at the pools, the entertainment (not that we really know about these since we haven‘t actually participated in any). They refer to the staff as officers, and even blow a bugle when you enter the grounds of the hotel, as if it’s the ship’s horn. We have “ships cats” that roam freely through the restaurants. We have monkeys, which oddly enough you don’t normally find on a ship. We have actually come home one day to a monkey on the balcony of our room. Not a big deal, except that our sliding glass door was wide open, and there don’t happen to be screens on them! When the “stewards” come to clean our rooms, they tend to leave our sliding glass doors wide open when they leave. Who knows how many monkeys we’ve had visiting while we’ve been away? Tonight, since we’re docked in Mombasa, we have Masai Warriors dancing for us for entertainment. We are going to try to stay awake late enough to watch them.
